Surprising question... Two campaigns have recently started in the United Kingdom and in the United States about the use of English.
- In Britain, a group of language activists have started a campaign against the nonsense signs that can be spotted aroun the country, such as "Removing the wheel can influence the performance of the bicycle" from a bicycle manual, or "Do not open door while airborne except in emergency" on emergency exit doors in planes, "Road wet when raining" or "Platform ends here" at the end of train station platforms"!

It does sound silly, doesn't it? Actually, the companies and public organisations which are responsible for what seems to be obvious nonsense are just trying to protect themsemves from potential legal action in case an accident occurs and an irritable customer takes them to court.

Here is more information about this phenomenon.
- In the USA, it is a different kind of campaign which is going on. In fact, it is not a new campaign, as it started many years ago: some Americans want English to be... the official language of the USA!

True, the US do not really have an official language as such, and other languages such as Spanish are used in many states. Here is more detailed article.
